Planning a Wedding or Sweet 16 in Westchester & Putnam County? Here's What to Know
A few things we've learned from providing DJ and event entertainment at celebrations throughout Westchester County, Putnam County, and the Hudson Valley.
Planning a wedding or Sweet 16 is about much more than choosing a date and a venue. The right entertainment can help set the tone for the entire celebration, from the moment your guests arrive until the last song of the night.
At Westchester Entertainment, we've provided DJ and event entertainment for weddings, Sweet 16s, and celebrations throughout Westchester County, Putnam County, and the surrounding Hudson Valley. One thing we've learned along the way is that no two events — or venues — are exactly alike.

Every Venue Has Its Own Personality
One of the things we love about working in Westchester and Putnam County is the variety of places where people celebrate.
A wedding at Whitby Castle in Rye has a very different feel from a reception at Knollwood Country Club in Elmsford. The Mansion on Broadway in White Plains, Le Chateau in South Salem, Greentree Country Club in New Rochelle, Travelers Rest in Ossining, and Cortlandt Colonial in Cortlandt Manor each have their own character as well.
We've also had great experiences at Villa Barone Hilltop Manor in Mahopac and The Garrison in Garrison.
The entertainment should work with the room, the guest list, and the style of the celebration — not feel like the exact same setup was dropped into every venue.
That can mean adjusting the music, lighting, introductions, announcements, or even the way the dance floor is opened. A good DJ pays attention to what is happening in the room and adjusts throughout the night.
Your Wedding DJ Should Be More Than Someone Who Plays Music
Music is obviously a huge part of a wedding, but a wedding DJ is also involved in keeping the reception moving.
Introductions, first dances, dinner, parent dances, cake cutting, announcements, and the transition to open dancing all need to happen at the right time.
The goal isn't to make the night feel overly programmed. It's to make sure the important moments happen smoothly while leaving plenty of room for everyone to enjoy themselves.
Every wedding has a different guest list and a different idea of what a great party looks like. Some couples want a packed dance floor all night. Others want a more relaxed evening with dancing mixed in with conversation and dinner.
The entertainment should reflect what you want your wedding to feel like.

Sweet 16s Are a Completely Different Kind of Party
A Sweet 16 has its own energy.
The music has to connect with the birthday girl and her friends, while still giving parents, grandparents, family, and other guests opportunities to get involved.
The grand entrance, special dances, candle ceremonies, birthday traditions, and other planned moments can all be important parts of the evening. But once those formal moments are finished, the party really takes over.
We've worked with families celebrating Sweet 16s in communities including Mahopac, Somers, Yorktown Heights, Bedford Hills, North Salem, South Salem, Pleasantville, Valhalla, and Purdy's.
What works for one group of teenagers may not work for another. That's why we pay attention to the guest of honor, the music she likes, and the overall feel she's looking for.
The goal is to create a celebration that feels like her party, rather than simply playing a standard list of popular songs.
From White Plains to the Hudson Valley
Westchester County has so many different types of communities and event spaces.
You might be planning a wedding in White Plains, Scarsdale, New Rochelle, Chappaqua, Tarrytown, Ossining, Hastings-on-Hudson, or Irvington. Each area has its own mix of venues, families, and celebrations.
That's one reason we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to DJ entertainment.
The right music, lighting, announcements, and pacing depend on the people in the room. Our job is to read the crowd and help create the kind of celebration our clients envisioned when they started planning their event.

Don't Forget the Photo Booth
A Photo Booth can be a great addition to both weddings and Sweet 16s.
It gives guests something fun to do during cocktail hour and throughout the reception, and it gives them a keepsake they can take home.
For Sweet 16s especially, a Photo Booth can become part of the party itself. Friends can take pictures together, create different combinations throughout the night, and have something to remember the celebration by.
It's a simple way to add another interactive element without taking attention away from the dance floor.
